Services

I work with adults on a wide variety of issues including stress management, trauma, life transitions and changes, conflict resolution, communication improvement and interpersonal relationships. I specialize in treating anxiety, depression, and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

Treatment will look different for everyone and we’ll discuss the best approach for you. If you are seeking or would benefit from a specific treatment modality, here are the specializations I am specifically trained in (and some info about them):

Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR)

EMDR is one of the most effective and researched psychotherapies for healing trauma and difficult life events that make you feel like you’re “stuck”. EMDR is different from standard psychotherapy in that it targets the emotional centers of your brain to move you through the fight or flight response, allowing your brain to come to acceptance, resolution and healing in its own way. EMDR is amazing for removing difficult emotional blocks and many feel relief after just a few sessions.

Here’s a great video describing EMDR:

EMDR is evidence based, heavily researched and highly impactful. Quite a few studies done on this therapy show that PTSD from a single event can be alleviated  after just 3 90-minute sessions using the EMDR framework. EMDR is now recognized by the American Psychiatric Association, The World Health Organization and the Department of Defense as a top choice of treatment for those seeking relief from a traumatic event or memories. If you’d like to learn more about EMDR, check out the American Psychiatric Association’s website.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

CBT is an evidence-based and effective psychological treatment for a range of issues including depression, anxiety, substance use, relationship/marital issues, eating disorders, and other mental illnesses. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy involves examining thinking patterns and behaviors that may be causing issues in your life, and teaching you how to challenge or change them. There have been several studies that show CBT has been as effective or more effective than psychiatric medications. The American Psychiatric Association also offers a more in depth explanation.

Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)

CPT is based on the scientific evidence gained in CBT, however is more geared toward healing trauma and and the distorted thoughts that have resulted from a difficult life event. Cognitive Processing Therapy is generally very structured and delivered over 12-16 consecutive weeks. In moving through this treatment, you will gain new understanding about yourself, this event and its ongoing impact on your life. As healing begins, you will feel a reduction of its impact and begin to feel more freedom and resolution in your present life. For more information on CPT, check out this explanation from the American Psychiatric Association.
